The Thurgau Youth Orchestra’s concert tour in March, which took place in the towns of Weinfelden, Arbon, and Steckborn, was a great success with both audiences and critics. The program included F. Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 1 for String Orchestra, C. Stamm’s Cello Concerto No. 3, and F. Schubert’s Symphony No. 5.
Review:

“Elegant Spring Sounds”
“Mendelssohn, Stamitz, and Schubert at their finest: The Thurgau Youth Orchestra presented chamber music of great scale in its spring concert. Felix Mendelssohn was just 13 years old when he composed his String Symphony No. 1. And the child prodigy certainly didn’t make it easy for his young interpreters, especially in the first movement. It took a moment for the crisp, intricate, contrapuntal sections to acoustically coalesce into a unified whole in the Steckborn church.
Conductor Gabriel Estarellas Pascual, however, was in complete command of the situation and soon brought his versatile orchestra under control, weaving the bright and dark lines into a harmonious whole.” LINK Thurgau Kultur”
